Patricia Morais, B.Sc.

Patrícia Morais obtained her Bachelor’s degree in Biomedical Sciences from the University of Aveiro in 2023 and is currently enrolled in the Master's degree in Medical Microbiology at the Faculty of Science and Technology of the Universidade Nova de Lisboa.
During her Bachelor’s degree, she worked on the project “Evaluating the presence of Dendritic Cells in Tertiary Lymphoid Structures in Cancer and Autoimmune Diseases - Designing an Experimental Protocol”, at iBiMED.
Due to her great interest in the intestinal microbiome, she joined the Evolutionary Biology (EB) group at the Instituto Gulbenkian de Ciência (IGC), in Portugal, working on the “Microbioma Comunidade Portugal” project. This project aims to carry out the first characterization of the dynamics of the intestinal microbiome in humans in Portugal, involving citizen science with the active participation of citizens in research.

Description of the project
The "Microbioma Comunidade Portugal" project has the objective of characterizing the dynamics of the intestinal microbiome in humans in Portugal, involving citizen science with the active participation of citizens in research. This project aims to identify the intestinal microbiome of healthy individuals over time to understand the stability of its compositions.
This characterization will help to understand which microorganisms colonize the gut and which factors modulate the dynamics of the intestinal microbiome. This information will help to understand the alterations that may lead to certain predictive diseases, or how to restore an ecosystem to a healthy state.
