João Brandão, BSc

I obtained my BSc In Applied Statistics at Faculdade de Ciências da Universidade de Lisboa (FCUL) and I am currently enrolled in the MSc in Biostatistics, also at FCUL. Throughout my academic path I got involved in research projects connected with microbiology and gene expression in cancer patients, where I developed a passion for these areas. These experiences lead me into joining the Evolutionary Biology Laboratory at the IGC, for the research project "Predictability in Evolution". Here, my role is to conduct statistical analysis to describe and understand the genetic and phenotypic changes that occur in a hyper-mutator strain of E.coli evolving in the mouse gut, with the goal of detecting differing evolutionary paths which, ultimately, could lead to the emergence of a new bacterial species.
